NEW YORK. Cert. Prov. de 1 Obligation de $100. Cat. D/H 1147 - R5. green, black. No 1979. Folds. Text in French and English. Printed in Paris, and clear French participation. Issued in $100 gold. Doubtless one of the most appealing railroad lines in the world. This company was founded by a syndicate of American railroad magnates in 1904 (through a French spokesman) to build a Siberian-Alaskan railroad from Cape Prince of Wales in Alaska through a tunnel under the Bering Strait and across northeastern Siberia to Irkutsk via Cape Dezhnev, Verkhnekolymsk and Yakutsk. The proposal was fora 90-year lease, and exclusive mineral rights for 8 miles (13 km) each side of the right-of-way. It was debated by officials and finally turned down on March 20, 1907.
