MILANO. Certificato Nom. di 100 Azioni L.100. blue, black. No 38017. Vignette of the company's marque. Isotta and Fraschini entered the car business as agents for, and then assemblers of, the Renault voiturette from France. Their first own car was built in 1902 - an expensive, powerful machine on Mercedes lines. In 1907control was acquired by Lorraine-Dietrich, of France. The company built up an impressive racing record, and by 1909 this reputation, widespread in the U.S.A., led to 3/4 of its production being exported there. More than a dozen models were being offered at the start of WWI. In contrast, only one model was made after WWI - a luxury car, primarily for the American market. However, the company had been developing its aero- and marine-engine activities, and the commercial vehicles market, and was grateful for this when the Great Depression killed its American car sales. A new model was listed after WWII, but did not sell, and the company died in 1949.
