LONDON. Ordinary Shares of £10. black. No 96. Formed 1881. Allegorical vignette of 3 ladies, one representing music. The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, originally opened as the Theatre Royal in Covent Garden in 1732 and the present building is actually the third Theatre on the site. The first burnt down in 1808. A new theatre was built immediately on the same site. In 1847 the Theatre was reconstructed at a cost of £27,000, and re-opened as the Royal Italian Opera House, but in 1856 it was again destroyed by fire. The third and present Theatre on the site opened as the Royal Italian Opera House in 1858. The name was changed in 1892 to the present Royal Opera House.
