The Cie Générale des Eaux was formed in Paris in 1853, and obtained the concession to supply water to the city of Lyon. There followed in 1861 a concession for Paris. The company was focused on water until 1976, when itbegan to move into transport, energy, waste management and construction. For these various activities it launched new companies - Vivendi, Vinci and Veolia. Veolia, previously Vivendi Environment, is today a major multinational with more than 300.000 employees and activities in 48 countries. These activities are traditional utility services such as water management, waste management, public transport and energy services. Vivendi is today a mass media conglomerate, primarily focused on digital entertainment. It owns for instance Canal+ Group (television) and music world leader Universal Music Group. The share was a border design of water themes - aqueducts, fountains, girls pouring water, crops grown with the water, etc. This provisional sharefrom 1853 is the very first certificate issued by the Co. Générale des Eaux and as such the starting point of some of the most important companies in France (and the world) today. Only piece known to us, hence rarity 12.
