PARIS. Part de Propriété. blue, black. #2000. No 17. Formed 1891 to study the potential of a new type of airship as breveted by Louis Margerie. It concerned an engine-driven airship, something which, in 1891, looks to us like a great novelty and something that would become known as a plane. Indeed, only balloons were being used at that time (1891!). Hence, this might well be the earliest piece of 'motorised aviation scripophily' from Europe we have ever seen. We read in a newspaper article from that year, that the project was indeed described as heavier than air locomotion in the air, similar to birds, by the use of a steam-powered engine and called 'aviation', a new word at that time.
