In 1923 it started car production, building Hispano-Suizas under license. The engine was a 6-litre 6-cylinder type, with body of Skoda's own design. In 1925 Skoda took over the Laurin & Klement works at Mlada Boleslav, and production of Skoda cars began there. The range included 4-, 6- and 8-cylinder models of conventional design. More advanced ideas came in with the 1930s and Skoda carsbecame famous, with a good record in rallies. The range improved steadily to 1939, when the factory converted to production for the German military.
