WEST-VLAANDEREN. BRUXELLES. Action Ordinaire. blue, buff. #2000. No 1757. Very tired condition with heavy folds, small paper loss, edge-splits and some discolouration. Yet, this is in itself perhaps the prettiest share we have ever seen from Oostende. It shows various (hotel?) buildings, lobsters and other delicious food. Also Jugendstil elements. The company, founded 1898, took over the hotel building that was being built at the Koninginnelaan, Oostende. It was to become a luxurious 350-room hotel with its own theater, hairdressing saloon and confectionery. Construction was however stopped by a court decision because the building permit was for a 21m high building and the building rose up to 36m above sea-level. The half-finished building was sold for 825.000 fr. to the Co. Foncière des Grands Hôtels who tore the building down and used the materials to construct the Royal Palace Hotel elsewhere in the city. Only this one piece was found.
