HAINAUT. PERONNES-LEZ-BINCHE. Action. black, buff, green. #12800. No 7388. The concession of Peronnes was granted in 1827, but only from 1837 was serious exploration and exploitation undertaken. However, at this date there was a great speculation on the French bourses for Belgian mining shares, and any mine would find a buyer. The owner of the concession persuaded a group of Lille and Brussels financiers to buy the concession for 220.000 francs, far too high a price. Costs were very high, and only in 1841 was the first ton of coal raised. There were already financial difficulties and large losses were incurred. However, this S.A. was formed in 1856 to obtain necessary new investment for the mine.
