JOHANNESBURG/LONDON. Shares of £1. green, pink, black. No 2514. Folds, pin-holes and brown discolourationat the bottom. Shows 2 large coat of arms, of the Orange Free State and the Transvaal. Founded 1894 as the Robinson Diamond Mining Co. but renamed in the above in 1898. The company owned the Kaal Valley mine nearVentersburg (Lejweleputswa District) and the farm Dirksburg (District Winburg), both 100-150 km north from Bloemfontein. They count as one of the oldest settlements in South Africa located north of the Orange River. Firm wound up in 1915. Printed by Waterlow, London. Not seen before by us.
