A shipping and trading company which was originally founded by the French noble Gabriel de Béchade in 1888 and headquartered in Nouméa, the capital of New Caledonia. In the 1920s, the company moved operations to the New Hebrides (Port-Vila). This is another French former territory in the Pacific, since independence (1980) known as Vanuatu.
